EU Directive is Forcing Prices for Carriers

The EU directive enforcing sea vessels to reduce sulphats in their fuel consumption is coming into effect on 01.01.2015. This means an increase in the running costs to ferry operators requiring them to invest into either alternative technology (engines) or buying more costly fuel in accordance to the new directive. Higher operating costs will also reflect on the ticket prices sold to roadhauliers. In the Baltic region where local ferry operator Tallink Ltd has a leading position we can expect at least a 20% rise in the ticket prices from the beginning of next year.
