Chinese Celebrations

China will celebrate National Day from 1st to 3rd of October. It is also called a Golden Week because the holiday will last 7 days until 7th of October. Therefore China will be closed for business activities. Plan your trips and transportations early!

In ancient times National Day usually fell on the day when the emperor ascended the throne or was born. Nowadays it bears the meaning of founding the People’s Republic of China. The PRC was actually founded on the 21st of September in 1949 but the grand celebration was held on the 1st of October at Tiananmen Square and on October 2nd the new government announced October 1st to be the National Day.

During the Golden Week a lot of tourists from China and abroad go traveling. There are parades and lots of activities. It is a great time to celebrate also because of the clear weather and comfortable temperature.
